Williams Formula1 team have confirmed their test and reserve driver Latifi will partner George Russell next season, thus replacing Robert Kubica.
Latifi who spent the whole of 2019 as Williams reserve and test driver will take the place of Kubica who decided to call it quite after spending a single season with team.
The young Canadian driver must finish in the top five (5) of this year’s Formula 2 Championship for a chance to get his superlicence.
Confirming the news, Deputy team principal said ” All of us at Williams have been immensely impressed at what he (Latifi) has achieved this year in FIA Formula 2, along with his commitment to the team, and the work that he has put in behind the scenes .
Latifi who was surprised with his recent promotion said
” It still feels a bit surreal, I don’t think it will sink in fully until I’m on the grid in Melbourn next year.
” I can’t wait to take the next step forward as a full time race driver, I don’t underestimate the challenge ahead, going into F1 as a rookie, but I’m extremely motivated and determined to give it my all”
