Abia Warriors midfielder James Odeh hopeful of a fruitful 2019/20 NPFL season

New Abia Warriors midfielder James Odeh is looking forward to the Nigeria Professional Football League 2019/20 season with sheer optimism.

 

The former Yobe Desert Star, and Benue Star FC player is one of Thirteen new faces in the Umuahia Landlords camp after club Chairman Pastor Emeka Inyama fulfilled his promise to back coach Immanuel Deutsch with new signings.

James Odeh started his playing career in the North Central with Benue Stars FC before moving to Kenis Stars Academy in Markudi.

In 2016/17 he joined Yobe Desert Stars who were playing in the Amateur League, and helped the team gain promotion into the Nigeria National League (NNL) the following season making Seven appearances. Odeh scored Five goals and contributed Seven assists in eighteen outings in 2017/18 to propel the Damaturu outfit into the Nigeria Professional Football League, and found the back of the net on his NPFL debut against Heartland FC. He played 10 times during the abridged league campaign.

The wheels were set in motion when Abia Warriors came calling for his services, and during his unveiling Odeh raised eyebrows with the targets he set for himself.

Odeh who is more comfortable playing as a supporting striker, and in a midfield of three admits he needs to work  extremely hard to earn the trust of his coaches.

“There are good players here, and in my position too, but I’m ready to fight for a place every single week by training hard”, he continued “I will always give my best when called upon to represent the team”.

James Odeh has played in Seven preseason matches since joining Abia Warriors, notably a decent outing against Enyimba International in Aba, where he was deployed on the left side of midfield, and a couple at the just concluded Okowa Cup tourney in Asaba, Delta State.

He will compete for a spot with established players like Fatai Abdullahi, Club captain Shedrack Asiegbu, Emeka Isaac, and new acquisitions Nonso Paul, and Oghenetega in the upcoming season.
