Reports filtering in indicates that ex Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has parted ways with Serie A side Atalanta without kicking a ball.
The former Slovakian international joined Atalanta as a free agent on August 9th after his deal with Fenerbache expired at the end of last season.
Multiple outlets claim the experienced defender was uncomfortable with the training style & tactics of coach Gian Piero Gasperini and both parties moved for a mutual termination of the contract after just three weeks.
Atalanta who will be competing in their maiden UEFA champions league have now set their sights on Danish international Simon Kjaer. The centre back is in the books of Sevilla who he joined from Fenerbache for about €12.5 million in 2017.
Kjaer, 30, already has Serie A experience following stints with AS Roma & Palermo and has also featured for the likes of Fenebache, Wolfsburg and Lille.
Atalanta are drawn in Group C of this season’s champions league alongside Manchester City, Shakhtar Donetsk and Dinamo Zagreb.
