EAGLES ON PARADE

It’s a new campaign in the leagues for some, and almost a new campaign for many; but how well did players of Nigerian origin fare over the weekend.

 

South Africa

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi was rewarded with another start, and he got 90mins under his belt and a clean sheet for Kaizer Chiefs.

Akpeyi made several good saves to help Kaizer Chief beat Black Leopards by a lone goal at home.

 

Belgium

Stephen Odey was a 68th minute substitute for Genk in their two nil loss to Zulte Waregem at home.

The mercurial striker had a quiet day, as Zulte’s defence shut him out.

Nigerian striker David Okereke was on song in Club Brugge’s 0-2 win over Oostende. The silky forward grabbed Club Brugge’s first goal in the 72nd minutes.

Former youth international, Abdul Ajagun was on the scoresheet as Kortrijk beat Cercle Brugge 1-3.

The midfielder grabbed his goal in the 49th minute.

Teammate and fellow midfielder Imoh Ezekiel was an unused substitute during the encounter.

 

Denmark

Nigerian Striker Frank Onyeka was an 80th minute substitute for two goal hero Sory Kaba in Midjyttland 2-0 win over Horsen

 

France

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen announced himself to the French ligue 1, the record goal scorer struck a brace for his new side Lille in a 2-1 win over Nantes.

Osimhen opened the scoring in the 19th minute and completed his brace in the 80th minute in his debut game for Lille

Eagles winger, Samuel Kalu was on the losing side but played the entire duration as Bordeaux were beaten 3-1 by Angers away from home. The silky winger played a more central position and has been handed the number 10 jersey this season.

 

England

Super Eagles and Leicester City combative midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi was once again impress his deep lying midfield position, partnered by Youri Tielemans and Hamza Choudhury. The midfielder had 100% tackles won, 100% dribbles, completed 13 final third passes, 2 aerial duels, and won 2 clearances in the first half, and was in his defensive best in the second half.

Teammate Kelechi Iheanacho who had a brilliant preseason, could only find space on the bench for the duration of the encounter.

Elsewhere, Alex Iwobi was not named in the squad after completing a move to Everton from Arsenal on deadline day.
